Free Advisers Workshop

Mercer University's Center for Collaborative Journalism and the Georgia Scholastic Press Association will host a High School Journalism Advisers Workshop June 6-7, 2024, on Mercer's Macon campus. The workshop itself will be free to attend and will include sessions such as introduction to audio, introduction to photo and video, on writing and editing, crafting story ideas or others. A hotel block is available for reservations.

They’ll consider what makes a story important, how to gather credible information, and how to present it in the most effective way. GSPA and its members from across the state will celebrate the best in scholastic journalism at the Spring Workshop and Awards. The event will be held at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education on Monday, March 25, 2024. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. A workshop will lead the event, 9-11:45 a.m., followed by a banquet-style awards luncheon at noon, catered by the Georgia Center. Professional dress is suggested.

Journalist of the Year Contest - Due Jan. 22

Seniors are invited to enter the Georgia Champion Journalist and Junior Journalist of the Year contests. The complete 2023 Champion Journalist and Jr. Champion Journalist Guidelines and form for entry will be available for submission Dec. 1, 2022 through Jan. 22, 2023. Entrants must create a comprehensive online portfolio to showcase their best journalistic pieces, skills and achievements. There are no entry fees for either of these contests. All completed entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2023.

The event will be held at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education on Monday, April 11.
