Cedar Shoals High School's Marc Ginsberg named GSPA's 2023 Adviser of the Year

Marc Ginsberg, adviser of BluePrints and WJAG-TV at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia, has been selected as GSPA’s 2023 Adviser of the Year. The award recognizes a journalism teacher who goes beyond the “call of duty” in supporting his or her staff.

Ginsberg has spent the past nine years putting his all into his school’s publications, according to his staff. They say their adviser shows them every day that he not only cares tremendously about their work but also their wellbeing. And while deadlines are important, BluePrints staff members report that Ginsberg prioritizes their mental health, which has been more important than ever during these last few challenging years.

“Our publication, like most, struggled during the pandemic to produce consistent content. Instead of letting this deter him, [Ginsberg] ran with it,” his staff wrote in a nomination letter. “We spent the year virtually discussing what staff members gravitated toward producing, cultivating a connected family. By the time we came back in person, we ran like a well-oiled machine.”

“How much [Marc] Ginsberg cares about BluePrints is unavoidably obvious in every way. He has pushed and aided us to be the student-run publication he knows we are capable of,” BluePrints staff noted. “He values letting us have the experience of working as a team and coming to conclusions together, and each of us is all the more ready to go out into the world and make tough team decisions because of him.”

Ginsberg was recognized at the 2023 Spring Workshop and Awards at the UGA Georgia Center on March 27, 2023.
