GSPA is now accepting entries for the 2024 First Amendment Essay Competition. As an essential part of our democracy, the press, and education, the First Amendment remains a crucial area of study and review. Students should write 300-500 words addressing the following prompt:

In the First Amendment context, some scholars say it is possible to have a free society in which people have the right to call on the law to defend them against being offended or insulted. Other scholars say that is not possible. What do you think? Make an argument one way or the other.

Students must complete the contest entry form to be considered. The top three winners and their publications will receive monetary prizes.
