Putting the spotlight on our GSPA ambassadors allows them to showcase their published work and skills.
Hi! My name is Lea D’Angelo and I’m a junior at Clarke Central High School in Athens and the Digital Editor-in-Chief for the ODYSSEY Media Group. My goals within ODYSSEY center around telling fair and accurate stories and making those stories accessible and engaging to wide audiences.
Read Lea D’Angelo’s selected published pieces here:
I chose these pieces because they represent two of my favorite things about journalism: telling peoples’ stories and making them accessible to people. The piece about the founder of Lydia’s Place, a nonprofit organization supporting those aging out of foster care in my community, was a chance for me to not only highlight someone greatly impacting my community through writing but through graphics and multimedia showing that impact in an accessible way for viewers, The piece about my district’s Board of Education was a chance unpack a long history and highlight the growth of it over the years.
Being a GSPA Ambassador has been an amazing opportunity for me to connect with other students across the state, from presenting at GSPA’s fall conference to getting to see my fellow ambassadors present and have their work featured. The experience has not only made me a better leader but made me further realize the importance of scholastic media and organizations like GSPA.
Through my work, I hope to not only shed light on issues but also tell peoples’ stories in an engaging and accessible way. When writing, I do my best to make sure my stories are accurate and balanced and shine a fair light on the people. Topics and issues of my school community. I also create multimedia with the goals of accessibility and engagement in mind, retelling information that is more often than not in the story, but in a way that some might find more understandable or even more entertaining.
