GSPA is now accepting entries for the 2022 First Amendment Essay Competition. As an essential part of our democracy, the press and education, the First Amendment remains an important area of study and review. Students should write 300-500 words addressing the new prompt for 2022.

GSPA invites advisers and student staff members from all publication and production types who are interested in presenting at the 2022 Winter Conference Thursday, Feb. 10, at the University of Georgia’s Tate Student Center to submit their ideas for consideration.

The Georgia Scholastic Press Association is proud to announce the 2020-21 Literary Magazine and Yearbook Contest winners. During another challenging year, students and advisers still found creative ways to tell their communities' stories and publish award-worthy work. Congratulations to all!

Ambassadors promote GSPA in their schools and communities, serve as liaisons who strengthen communication between their high school media programs and GSPA , and act as leaders who bring new ideas to scholastic media. We look forward to working with this highly talented group of seven students.

Join the University of Georgia School of Law First Amendment Clinic for a presentation on prior review and prior restraint of student journalists who create content for their school-sponsored media. The presentation on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. will cover what these practices are, why they discourage student discussion of important topics, and how we can work towards eliminating these practices in school-sponsored media.

GSPA will recognize the hard work of yearbook and literary magazine staffs during a virtual awards program Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. The celebration will feature General Excellence competition rankings and Individual Award winners from the summer 2021 contests.

Hi, everyone! My name is Julianne (Juli) Bernstein and I am the new graduate assistant for GSPA for the 2021-2022 school year. I am so excited to get to know everyone and begin my work with GSPA!

Energetic and engaged students interested in expanding their leadership skills, bringing a new vision and shaping GSPA are invited to apply to be part of the GSPA Student Ambassadors program (formerly the Student Advisory Board). Applications are due Sept. 30.

Thirty four high school students from around the country studied media and completed portfolio projects during the virtual Summer Media Academy June 14-July 2, 2021, at the University of Georgia.

Members are invited to enjoy this series of mini lessons, which cover a variety of topics relevant to scholastic journalists and advisers. Some are in a video format, while others are slide presentations.

GSPA is accepting General Excellence and Individual Award contest entries for yearbooks and literary magazines published in the 2020-21 academic year. The deadline to submit to the contests has been extended to Aug. 31, 2021.

The Spring Awards recognizes Broadcasts, Newspapers, Newsmagazines and News Websites. General Excellence and Individual Award contest winners are announced. Recipients of awards administered throughout the year are also honored, including the Georgia Champion Journalist of the Year and Junior Champion Journalist of the Year, First Amendment Essay finalists and Achievement Award winners. Congratulations to all of the winners and honorees!

GSPA is curating a series of mini lessons focused on the theme of innovation in lieu of a traditional spring workshop. We invite members to submit videos (10 minutes or LESS), Powerpoint/Keynote/Google Slide presentations, Insta Stories or other types of content that teach about a best practice.

GSPA will celebrate the best in scholastic journalism across the state during a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 4 p.m. The presentation will be in the form of a YouTube video and will be shared on social media and on GSPA’s website.

Owen Donnelly, co-editor-in-chief and writing coach for ODYSSEY Media Group at Clarke Central High School in Athens, Georgia, has been named the 2021 Georgia Champion Journalist of the Year by the Georgia Scholastic Press Association and the Journalism Education Association. The award recognizes the top high school senior journalist in the state.

Natalie Ripps, co-editor-in-chief of Clarke Central’s iliad literary art magazine, was the runner-up in the competition.
