Molly Harwell, editor-in-chief for ODYSSEY Media Group at Clarke Central High School in Athens, Georgia, has been named the 2024 Georgia Champion Journalist of the Year. The award recognizes the top high school senior journalist in the state. Wesley Harrison, digital editor-in-chief for The Pitchfork and an executive producer for the Blue Devil News at Marietta High School, is the runner-up in the competition.

Registration is open for the 2024 Southern Interscholastic Press Association’s Convention March 1-3 at the Marriott Columbia and the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina. The convention will mark SIPA’s 100th year.
Among presenters will be anchorman Steve Crocker from First at 9 and WBRC FOX6 News at 10 at WBRC FOX6 News in Birmingham, Alabama.

The workshop itself will be free to attend and will include sessions on topics such as introduction to audio, introduction to photo and video, writing and editing, and crafting story ideas.
